The Murmur – Directed by Dana Al Mutawa
A slow unraveling of grief, memory, and self, The Murmur finds Tamara Qaddoumi navigating the quiet weight of emotion through a dreamlike, monochrome lens. The video marks the directorial debut of Dana Al Mutawa, who crafts a visual world that mirrors the song’s haunted harmonies and evolving rhythm.

When Tamara first reached out to me about The Murmur, I felt genuinely honored. I’d always admired her music and her thoughtful approach to storytelling. This was my first time directing a music video—something I’d always dreamed of doing.
Our early conversations happened over Zoom. Tamara walked me through the lyrics and themes—grief, identity, and the subtle emotional current running through the song. I took it all in, then spent weeks listening to the track on repeat while biking around my neighborhood, capturing b-roll, textures, and quiet landscapes that helped me shape the visual world.
I pulled from everything that had stayed with me over the years: old noir films, early 2000s indie rock videos, from iconic Lebanese music and artistic motifs, and the soft drama of black-and-white cinematography. The studio shoot came together with soft lighting, long white drapes, and layered footage to echo the murmur of the song itself—haunting but gentle.
I'm deeply grateful to Tamara for trusting me with her vision, and to everyone who helped bring this to life.
