Last Day

This short film is how I imagined a visual companion to an interview my grandmother gave later in her career for Kuwait TV. At the time, I must have just started grade school—but watching it now, I’m struck by the sharpness of her voice, the strength of her words, and her nuanced outlook on nostalgia. It's something I wrestle with deeply today, especially as it has become a cornerstone of my work.
I envisioned a story of two friends: Sharifa and Mais. As an adult, Sharifa is interviewed, much like my grandmother was, but her mind drifts back to her childhood and the days she spent with Mais, her closest friend back home. Together, they embody both the uncertainty of the future and the comfort of memory. Their story reflects the beauty and heaviness of nostalgia, and the silence that often surrounds the past, not out of forgetfulness, but from the ache of knowing just how much time has slipped away.
